New Concept in Web Browsing –
'Previewing a Link' - Is Previewed by Syntactica

Minneapolis Technology Incubator Makes iReader™ Tool
Available as Limited Beta Release

MINNEAPOLIS (PRWeb) – February 20, 2007 – Syntactica, a unit of ZH Computer Inc., announced today it has developed a new concept in Internet browsing that lets users mouse-over any web link and extract the essence of that web page - displayed as a "preview window" - without ever clicking the link. This new tool is based on linguistic technology the company has been developing for several years and is now being released in a limited beta version.

“We’re back after our near-death experience last year with Google,” said Syntactica President Henry Neils, “where they shut us down and nearly put us out of business. But we regrouped, and we’ve developed a more advanced intelligent web preview product.”

The first beta (test) version of this browser plug-in – called the “iReader 2.0 Web Previewer” – has been made available today for download at www.Syntactica.com,
for either Microsoft Internet Explorer or Firefox (PC or Mac).

Once installed as a “helper” in IE or a “plug-in” in Firefox, the Syntactica iReader™ 2.0 Web Previewer tool can provide an “intelligent summary” of any URL, without needing to click on that link.  By merely mousing over the text link, it provides – in its preview window – the essential meaning in a short prioritized list of concepts or “Hyperlink Abstraction.”

The technology behind iReader 2.0 is Syntactica Web Services, which can be embedded into a number of computer programs that process English language text – including, for example, those for search output, search indexing, or book indexing.

The iReader 2.0 technology works by quickly digesting archived information of a
web page and providing the essential meaning, or sense, of the text on that page. The technology can also be integrated into Internet search engines to produce relevant abstracts of text information in real-time.  “In short,” said Neils, “this technology quickly compresses massive amounts of electronic English text into meaningful short abstracts along with a reference index.”

The iReader 2.0 API (application programming interface) is being offered on an  “Open Source” basis, whereby free source code has been published that makes the iReader 2.0 XML Web Services easy to use.  The company has made information for developers available at http://www.syntactica.com/developers.html.

At the heart of the technology behind iReader 2.0 is an intelligent dictionary or “lexicon.”   This lexicon is a compilation of a meticulous word-by-word analysis of the Webster’s 3rd New International Dictionary, unabridged.   This compilation considers the many different meanings and contexts of each individual word in the lexicon, and assigns a set of values to each word.

Then, when a document is processed by the iReader 2.0 Web Previewer, the value of each of the words in a given concept is considered and accumulated, creating a “concept value.”  These values are then ranked according to relative importance and presented in the “preview window” as the summary of the document or web page.

Product information about the iReader 2.0 Web Previewer is available at

“iReader 2.0’s ‘Intelligent Dictionary’ provides a contextual filter to allow the important concepts in a document to instantly be extracted and displayed,” said Ward Johnson, Syntactica’s VP of business development. "We're asking beta users, including bloggers and other reviewers of new Internet technologies, to try using the plug-in on such sites as www.nytimes.com, www.cnn.com, or www.msn.com, to extract the key concepts in the news of the day.  Then, we’re encouraging them let us know how they think people can use this product in their Internet browsing, and how it might be improved as we continue through our beta testing phase.”

Feedback, comments, and suggestions about the first beta version of iReader 2.0 are welcomed at beta-support@syntactica.com.
