Syntactica is a unit of ZH Computer Inc., which is a developer of technology solutions for the Internet. Both firms are headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Using open source frameworks such as Apache UIMA, the eXist native XML database plus its own tools, it provides document analysis services including entity extraction, document summarization and document correlation. Syntactica works with Semantic Web standards (RDF) and with XML formats such as TEI, DocBook and DITA.

Origins

The original Syntactica algorithms automatically extracted key entities from text documents. These entities were used to automatically summarize documents. The iReader browser plugin was then developed that allowed users to hover over a web link and have the content of the document automatically summarized.

The Syntactica document summarization engine was integrated into an open source framework for performing text analytics. When this analysis was done the results were stored directly into an open source native-XML database for rapid analytics. Syntactica found a large demand of customers that also wanted to preform complex analysis on index XML data sets.
